The Counseling and Mental Health Professions Dispensary assists individuals, couples, and families as they explore and solve bug in a confidential, prophylactic environment. Information technology is our mission to provide high-quality, affordable services to the community in a warm, rubber, and professional environment. The CMHP Clinic is composed of multiple programs in counseling: Mental Wellness Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy, Rehabilitation Counseling, and Artistic Arts Therapy Counseling.

The CMHP Clinic provides the following services to residents of Long Island and the surrounding areas:

  • Community pedagogy seminars
  • Grouping therapy to individuals, couples, and families
  • Speakers for schools, hospitals, and agencies

All clinical services are provided nether direct supervision of an approved supervisor and experienced kinesthesia.

Types of Counseling

Rehabilitation counseling is a systematic procedure which assists persons with physical, mental, developmental, cognitive, and emotional disabilities to achieve their personal, career, and independent living goals in the most integrated setting possible through the application of the counseling process. The counseling process involves communication, goal setting, and beneficial growth or change through self-advocacy and psychological, vocational, social, and behavioral interventions (Scope of Practise Statement by CRCC).

Specific services rehabilitation counselors can provide within the CMHP Dispensary include:

  • Assessment and appraisal
  • Vocational and treatment planning
  • Career (vocational) counseling
  • Individual and group counseling to address aligning to the disability
  • Example management, referral, and service coordination
  • Interventions to remove environmental, employment, and attitudinal barriers
  • Consultation about rehabilitation technology and workplace/independent living accommodations
  • Advocacy for the rights of persons with disabilities

Art therapy is a mental health profession in which clients, facilitated by the art therapist, utilize art media, the creative process, and the resulting artwork to explore their feelings and reconcile emotional conflicts. Clinic Staff

Teresa Grella-Hillebrand, MA, LMFT, is director of the Counseling and Mental Health Professions Clinic at the Saltzman Community Services Center at Hofstra University. Ms. Grella-Hillebrand is a New York state-licensed matrimony and family therapist and a clinical member of the American Clan for Union and Family Therapy. She served as president of the LIAMFT from 2010 to 2012 and remains active in the New York Sectionalisation for Union & Family Therapy. In add-on to her authoritative duties, Ms. Grella-Hillebrand is a clinical supervisor at the Joan and Arnold Saltzman Community Services Center and an adjunct instructor in Hofstra University's Marriage and Family Therapy graduate plan. She is besides a graduate of Hofstra Academy's Marriage and Family Therapy plan.
